Biography
I’ve been writing for publication for more than 20 years, starting with nonfiction and satire that appeared in New Times, an award winning alternative paper of San Luis Obispo County on California’s Central Coast. I moved on to multiple appearances in the Sunday Punch section of the San Francisco Chronicle, several magazine appearances, and then to Professional Surveyor and now The American Surveyor, two top national magazines for land surveyors. I am a regular columnist and feature contributor for The American Surveyor and a few of my columns have generated record amounts of reader feedback.
Like most writers, I’ve had other careers along the way, and among other things I happen to be a land surveyor, licensed in the state of Wisconsin. I’ve also sold AutoCAD and other high end software as a VAR (Value Added Reseller) in Idaho, worked on gas lines as a surveyor and diver (in the Mississippi!) throughout the South, managed a janitorial business, ran a crossword syndication service, and lots of other odds and ends - ain’t life interesting!
I moved to Paonia, a little farm town in the mountains of Colorado’s Western Slope, in 2005. I've been writing full time since moving here, and produce a radio show, Belief Systems and other B.S., for the local community radio, KVNF. My writing practice is balanced between national and local clients, and I travel as needed to write articles, take pictures, and conduct interviews - for instance, I recently flew to Orlando to cover a convention for The American Surveyor.
The varied life experiences help me to tackle any topic with fresh, interesting words and I look forward to applying my perspectives to your projects!
Cheers,
Angus W. Stocking
